Our Story

I made this for the
woman I used to be.

The one who was exhausted but couldn't stop. The one who kept pushing because she didn't know another way. This is her matcha.

Sarah, founder of Dawn Matcha

Sarah's story

Built from burnout.

For most of my twenties, I was really good at performing wellness while feeling terrible inside.

I exercised. I slept eight hours. I ate the right things. But I was running on fumes — the kind that look fine from the outside and feel like collapse from the inside. Chronic stress. Hormonal imbalances I couldn't explain. A nervous system that was permanently in overdrive, even when nothing was actually wrong.

Coffee was the agreement I made with my body: I'll give you something to run on, and you give me enough to get through the day. It worked. Until it didn't. Until the jitters became anxiety. Until the afternoons became walls. Until I was depleted in a way that more caffeine couldn't fix.

"I wasn't tired from doing too much. I was tired from running on the wrong fuel."

The pivot to matcha wasn't a wellness decision. It was a white-flag moment. I'd tried everything else. I was out of ideas and I was tired of being tired.

What I didn't expect was how different it felt — not just the absence of a crash, but the quality of the energy. Calm. Sustainable. Like my body was actually being supported instead of pushed past its limits. The L-theanine was doing something coffee never did: letting my nervous system breathe.

Within weeks my sleep improved. My cycle normalized. The afternoon walls dissolved. Matcha didn't fix everything — I did the work too. But it gave me a foundation to build on when I didn't have one before.

I founded Dawn because when I was searching for this — a small-batch ceremonial matcha built for women who actually understood what their bodies were going through — it didn't exist. So I built it.

What Dawn stands for

Built with intention,
not compromise.

Single origin

Each drop is sourced from traditional Japanese farms that have been growing tea for generations. A specific place, a specific harvest — never a generic blend.

Multiple cultivars

We work with different ceremonial cultivars across our drops — including Tsuyuhikari and Okumidori — each with its own flavour profile and character. The cultivar is always listed.

Female founded

Dawn was built because I couldn't find the brand I needed. It's made for women who are paying attention to their bodies — and who deserve a matcha brand that does the same.

Limited drops

We release when the harvest lands, not on a marketing calendar. The scarcity is real — and it's how the quality stays consistent every single time.

No pesticides

Tested by SGS Institut Fresenius — zero pesticide residues detected across 600+ substances screened. What's in your tin is exactly what the label says.

Nervous system first

Every sourcing decision is made with one question: does this support the women drinking it? L-theanine, calm energy, no cortisol spike. That's the whole point.

Where it comes from

Shizuoka, Japan.
Since 1902.

Between Mount Fuji and the Pacific coast, in a region called Shizuoka, there are tea farms that have been operating for generations. Our supplier has been growing tea there for over 120 years and has won the Minister of Agriculture Award 16 times — the highest recognition in Japanese tea farming.

The region is a UNESCO-recognized Globally Important Agricultural Heritage site. The soil is volcanic. The air is cool and misted from the ocean. The tea is shade-grown using traditional Chagusaba farming methods that naturally limit inputs and prioritize soil health. The result is matcha with depth, sweetness, and a vivid green colour that tells you exactly what you're getting.

Common questions

Everything you
want to know.

Dawn Matcha is made from early-harvest, shade-grown tea leaves sourced from Shizuoka, Japan and stone-ground in small batches. This process preserves flavour, colour, and naturally occurring L-theanine for a smooth, balanced cup — never bitter.
We work with different ceremonial cultivars across our drops. Our Emerald product uses the Okumidori cultivar — selected for its high L-theanine content and deep, vivid green colour. Our Morning Mist product uses the Tsuyuhikari cultivar — known for its delicate sweetness and lighter, floral character. The cultivar is always listed on the product page.
Our matcha comes from Shizuoka, Japan — a UNESCO-recognized Globally Important Agricultural Heritage site and the largest tea-producing region in Japan. Our supplier has been operating for over 120 years and has won the Minister of Agriculture Award 16 times.
Future drops may be certified organic. Our current batches prioritize farming practices and quality standards that go beyond organic certification. Japanese tea farming is highly regulated, and we source with intention over labels. Our matcha has been independently tested by SGS Institut Fresenius — zero pesticide residues detected across 600+ substances screened.
Pesticide residues — tested by SGS Institut Fresenius, one of the most rigorous independent testing labs in the world. Result: zero pesticide residues detected across 600+ substances screened. Clean across the board. Microbiological — independently tested with a low total plate count and negative for E. coli and Salmonella.
Sift 1.5–2 teaspoons into your bowl or mug to prevent clumping. Add about ¼ cup of hot water — not boiling, ideally around 175°F (let boiling water sit for 2 minutes first). Whisk in a W-motion until smooth and frothy, about 30 seconds. Enjoy as is, or add your favourite milk for a latte. The whole ritual takes about 3 minutes. That's the point.
Yes. Matcha provides a more balanced form of caffeine thanks to its natural L-theanine content — which moderates the caffeine release and prevents the cortisol spike associated with coffee. Many people enjoy Dawn daily as a gentler, more sustainable alternative. Not medical advice — consult with your doctor if you have specific health conditions.
Orders ship within 1–3 business days once placed. You'll receive tracking information as soon as your order is on its way.
Yes — subscribe and save 10% on every order. Subscriptions are flexible and can be paused or canceled anytime from your account, no questions asked. It's the easiest way to make Dawn a consistent part of your morning without running out between drops.
We source from small, traditional Japanese farms that harvest once a year in spring. The global ceremonial-grade matcha supply is genuinely constrained right now — Kyoto yields dropped significantly in recent years and prices have risen sharply. We secure a specific allocation per harvest. When it's gone, it's gone until the next drop. This isn't a marketing tactic — it's how real ceremonial matcha works.
