Vanilla Bean is our Emerald ceremonial matcha blended with real organic Madagascar vanilla bean. Creamy and deep with a soft, warm sweetness. It's a small batch made for fall, and it's only here for the season.
About $3.26 a cup made at home, versus $10 for a vanilla matcha latte at a café. A 34g tin makes about 15 cups.
Vanilla Bean vs. Emerald
Vanilla Bean is Emerald with a cozy side. The vanilla rounds out the umami and adds a gentle sweetness, so it shines in a latte. Emerald is the pure, full-bodied cup for when you want matcha and nothing else.
- Real vanilla bean, not flavoring. USDA Organic Madagascar vanilla, the whole bean ground fine, so you can see the flecks in your cup.
- Antioxidants from both. EGCG from the matcha and vanillin from the vanilla bean. Vanillin has been studied for its anti-inflammatory properties.
- Calm in a cup. Matcha's L-theanine for steady, focused energy, plus vanilla's soothing, comforting scent.
- Two ingredients. Emerald matcha and vanilla bean. No sugar, no syrups, no "natural flavors."
- Built on Emerald. Our richest ceremonial grade, Okumidori cultivar, stone-ground and shade-grown in Shizuoka.
- Made for lattes. Tastes like a café vanilla matcha latte at a fraction of the price and none of the sugar.
- A fall small batch. Each 34g tin holds 30g of Emerald and 4g of vanilla bean, about 15 cups, while this season's batch lasts.
The vanilla latte:
- Sift 2g (about 1 tsp) into your bowl or mug to prevent clumping
- Add about 60ml hot water, ideally 175°F (let it sit 2 minutes off the boil)
- Whisk in a W motion for 30 seconds until smooth and frothy
- Pour over steamed or iced milk. Pistachio milk is our favorite. A little maple syrup is lovely for fall too.
Because it's real ground vanilla bean, it doesn't fully dissolve. Those tiny dark flecks in your cup are the vanilla. Prefer it straight? Whisk with water only for a smooth, lightly sweet cup.
The matcha in Vanilla Bean is our Emerald, from a single family farm in Shizuoka, Japan, a UNESCO-recognized Globally Important Agricultural Heritage site. The farm has grown tea since 1902 and has won the Minister of Agriculture Award 16 times.
Every batch of our matcha is independently tested by SGS Institut Fresenius. Result: zero pesticide residues detected across 600+ substances screened. The vanilla is USDA Organic, grown in Madagascar: whole vanilla beans, the same ones sold whole, simply ground. Never the spent beans left over from making extract.
Vanilla Bean is a fall release made in one small batch. Once this season's tins sell out, it's gone until we make it again.
